President's Report
May 2026
May seems to have come and gone so quickly this year. Perhaps this is just my time of life, but time seems to speed up.
We got the music group started up again this month with many members showing their musical instruments and discussing their origin and when they acquired them. Some of the instruments had been made by shed members and I was amazed at the quality of the work and the sound. Chris Saunders had made a guitar for himself that could stand up to any occasion and Ray Morrison has hand built a beautiful violin with carved and shaped headstock. A sensational work and I am amazed at the talent of some of our members.
Thanks again to Ian for organising the musical events for members again this month. He was recovering from a knee operation and had to call in some helpers. So. thanks for everyone who assisted. This month a Shed group went to the “From Memphis with Love” concert on the 15th of May at Greensborough RSL, the Defence Force School of Music Concert on the 20th of May and the Jazz on the Green. The Greensborough Bowling Club hosted an afternoon of music, and this month Malcolm Osbourne’s band “Loose Plans” featured. A group of Shedders attended an enjoyable afternoon and were treated to a very polished performance. Thanks again to Ross for organising the singing evenings this month too. This event seems to be gaining popularity with members in spite of the cold winter nights.
The dine out dinner on the 12th of May was at MAZAJ LEBANESE Restaurant and was attended by a large group of members and their partners. Thanks again to John for organising the large group and trying out the new local venues for our group.
Roula has been recovering from surgery this month and I am most grateful to Lou for stepping up to run the lunch. Thanks also to Mark, Chris and Harry for assisting with organisating and to Kevin who consistently provides all the wines for the lunch and the raffle. This month’s lunch was attended by the Nillumbik Shire Council Mayor Naomi Joiner.
Kevin Chambers who is a long time Essendon supporter, provided a touching insight into his contact with the Daniher family in his working life after the passing of Neale this May. Thanks to all those members who wore the Blue Freeze Beenie’s to support Neale’s charity for MND. Vale Neale Daniher (1961 - 2026)
The guest speaker this month was Ben Simpson from Green Edge Technologies on Solar Panels and Batteries. Shed interest was high and Ben stayed around to chat to members for most of the morning.
Thanks to Jim and Ged for getting the Garden Watering Project started this month. This will assist the garden team with the challenge of watering the steep sloped banks toward the carpark. Work has also started on the painting of the door and frame as the members lounge really starts to take shape.
Sundowners on the 29th of May was particularly well attended this month with over 20 people turning up. Thanks to Wally and Rocky for organising in Jim’s absence.
Normal activities continued with all the workshops functioning and developing new projects. The bike shed has been providing about 20 refurbished bikes to various local groups and churches with the prospect of more into the future. The wood workers have been busy sound proofing the dust extractor, a job that is nearing completion.
Coming up
Don’t forget to book for the November Caravan Trip to Moama as well as the Dinner Cruise. Please make Colin aware of your intentions.
Ian is arranging a dinner table at the Greensborough RSL for a Joe Cocker Tribute Concert so if you are interested let Ian know.
I am planning to be away travelling North for much June and early July. John Skinner is now back from his travels so will be on board to manage the day-to-day activities at the shed.
See you at the Shed.
