President's Report
April 2026
We have had another two funerals for valued members of our shed over the last few months. Ray Carrol and Brent Arnott will be missed by all those of us who knew them. Both played significant roles in setting up the shed and developing activities for shed members. We owe them much and our condolences go to their families for their loss. Their memorials were well attended by shed members, and we had the opportunity to learn about these men from their families.
Normal activities continued throughout the month with all the workshops functioning and developing new projects. Thanks to Chris Sanders and his team of willing workers who installed the door to the members lounge and to David Baker for setting up the TV donated by Bruce Owen. This area is great for sitting and relaxing and for groups to gather for a chat.
The member’s lounge has been used now to establish the Music group which will be focusing on chatting about things musical and so far, it has been interesting to see some of the instruments and other bits of equipment that the fellows attending are turning up with.
Our dine outs and lunches were again well attended, and my thanks go to John, Roula and Kevin for all their hard work on these events. The Defence School of Music concerts are back again, and our shed is very well represented in the audience.
Many thanks to all who assisted us with the ANZAC day memorials. These events are seemingly growing in popularity each year and remind us of how fortunate we are as a nation.
Coming up
Unfortunately, Roula is in hospital having some planned surgery, but the good news is I have managed to lure Lou out of retirement. He has agreed to put the lunch on Wednesday 27th May. Thanks Lou, it will be great to see you back at the shed and in the kitchen. We are all wishing for a speedy recovery for Roula and hope that her stay in hospital will be a short one.
The Defence School of Music program starts again and thanks to Ian for organizing the bookings for those interested in in attending. Ian has been in hospital himself having knee replacement surgery. Things seem to have gone well, and he is already contemplating a return to the shed for the Monday morning meetings. Lynden is also back at the shed, so his knee surgery seems to be working well for him.
Ian will be taking bookings for the Joe Cocker concerts at the Greensborough RSL in June as well as the Jazz on the Green. These concerts are proving really popular with members so let Ian know if you want to come along.
I am planning to be away travelling North for much June and early July. John Skinner is now back from his travels so will be on board to manage the day-to-day activities at the shed
See you at the Shed.
