 WELCOME TO ELTHAM MEN'S SHED

Established in 2014, Eltham Men’s Shed is a community-based, not for profit, volunteer organisation that provides a safe and friendly environment where men can meet other men, develop new friendships and connect with their community. Our purpose is to support the health and well-being of our members.

The Shed offers a variety of social and practical activities throughout the week including Wood and Metal Workshops, Bicycle Restoration, Gardening, Technology and Photography. Members are able to work on projects at their own pace in their own time and in the company of other men.

Our weekly social gathering updates members on current activities, invites guest speakers and provides an opportunity to enjoy a cuppa and chat. A variety of other social activities are available including group travel, 4WD outings and dinners.

PRESIDENTS UPDATE
ELTHAM MEN'S SHED REPORT FOR March 2026
 Wednesday, 1 April 2026

President's Report

March 2026

March for me was a month away in our caravan after the great Queenscliff trip organised by Colin and David.  A most interesting spot for us Victorians and I think the big group who travelled down really enjoyed their stay.  For Meg and me, the trip was interrupted by a journey back to Melbourne to attend David Evans funeral and I thank the many shed members who attended and supported the family.  Davids tenure at the shed was a short one as he battled his cancer bravely and stoically.  Despite the obvious difficulties he had moving about, he established the Vinyl Appreciation Group that would meet on a Friday morning sharing their LP collections and reminiscing about what the albums meant to them in their lives.  I do hope someone with similar interests steps up to keep this group going in the future.

David had also been very active in our music group, penning lyrics for songs and recording them. We had the opportunity to sing a few of his songs at the Olivia Newton John centre the day before he passed. It was also very nostalgic to hear two of his songs played at his funeral for family and friends.  After the funeral we celebrated David’s life at the Rugby Club, where he played a significant part as a player, coach, committee member and President.  His career with IBM, running his own business and as a celebrant left him with many friends and contacts in a life well lived.

A big thank you to John Skinner for handling my duties at the shed while I was away with friends in the caravan.  Also, my thanks to the committee and the team leaders who keep the shed running.

Coming up

The AMSA National Shed Gathering was held from March 24 - 26, 2026 and attended by Jim Gundrum and John Cann.  From all accounts the event was well organised, and we look forward to hearing the feedback from Jim and John at the committee meeting.

All normal activities have resumed and thanks to the team leaders for organizing.

The Defence School of Music program starts again and thanks to Ian for organizing the bookings for those interested in attending.

April is time for the Anzac memorial and as usual the shed will be involved assisting the event and laying a wreath on behalf of all members.

An induction for new members will be held on the 7th of April and a big thank you to Harry for organising the event

See you at the Shed.

Bill Cooper
