President's Report
March 2026
March for me was a month away in our caravan after the great Queenscliff trip organised by Colin and David. A most interesting spot for us Victorians and I think the big group who travelled down really enjoyed their stay. For Meg and me, the trip was interrupted by a journey back to Melbourne to attend David Evans funeral and I thank the many shed members who attended and supported the family. Davids tenure at the shed was a short one as he battled his cancer bravely and stoically. Despite the obvious difficulties he had moving about, he established the Vinyl Appreciation Group that would meet on a Friday morning sharing their LP collections and reminiscing about what the albums meant to them in their lives. I do hope someone with similar interests steps up to keep this group going in the future.
David had also been very active in our music group, penning lyrics for songs and recording them. We had the opportunity to sing a few of his songs at the Olivia Newton John centre the day before he passed. It was also very nostalgic to hear two of his songs played at his funeral for family and friends. After the funeral we celebrated David’s life at the Rugby Club, where he played a significant part as a player, coach, committee member and President. His career with IBM, running his own business and as a celebrant left him with many friends and contacts in a life well lived.
A big thank you to John Skinner for handling my duties at the shed while I was away with friends in the caravan. Also, my thanks to the committee and the team leaders who keep the shed running.
